Job Title: Caretaker (fixed term contract 1 year)

Location: Airmyn Village Hall, Woodland Way, Airmyn
Salary: £13.02 per hour
Hours: 12 per week (flexible by agreement) with flat rate payable up to 30 hour p/w as required

Job Purpose:

We are seeking a reliable and proactive Caretaker to ensure that our facilities are maintained to a high standard and are ready for use. This role will also involve taking on the duties of a Relief Cleaner when required. The ideal candidate will work with minimal supervision, ensuring the hall is safe, secure, and properly set up for a variety of events.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Facility Preparation:
  • Set up rooms for events, including lifting/moving furniture such as tables, chairs, stages, and bar equipment.
  • Conduct visual inspections to ensure furniture and equipment are in good order, reporting any issues to the Clerk.
  • Perform opening and closing duties, ensuring all doors, windows, and electrical systems are secured.
  1. Maintenance & Repairs:
  • Conduct minor repairs (e.g., changing light bulbs, fixing hinges, painting fences).
  • Ensure safe handling and storage of equipment, chemicals, and other materials.
  • Maintain and repair outdoor areas, including mowing lawns and strimming, ensuring equipment is regularly serviced.
  1. Emergency Response:
  • Respond to emergency call-outs to ensure the premises are secure and any damage is addressed promptly.
  • Lock and unlock road entrance barriers and monitor the car park for security.
  1. Health & Safety:
  • Adhere to Health & Safety policies and undertake relevant training.
  • Conduct regular safety checks, including weekly play area inspections and fire safety procedures.
  1. Cleaning Duties:
  • Provide cover for the Cleaner when required, ensuring high standards of cleanliness throughout the facility.
  • Manage litter picking, emptying bins, and removing hazards such as broken glass from the premises.

 

Skills and Experience:

  • Previous experience in a similar role preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Basic maintenance and DIY skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly in safety and security measures.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
