Applications open for the 2025 East Riding Youth Parliament Elections

Young people across the East Riding are being invited to step forward and make a real difference in their communities as nominations officially open for the next East Riding Youth Parliament.

The East Riding Youth Parliament provides a powerful platform for young people aged 11–18 to have their voices heard on the issues that matter most to them. Members work together to represent their peers locally and nationally, contribute to consultations, lead campaigns, and speak directly to decision-makers.

This year’s recruitment drive encourages young people from all backgrounds, schools, and communities to get involved – whether they’re passionate about mental health, the environment, education, equality, or improving opportunities for young people across the area.

Dave Brown, Volunteen Voice Support Officer from Community VISION said: “The Youth Parliament is an incredible opportunity for young people to develop confidence, leadership skills and influence real change. We are looking for enthusiastic young people who want to make a positive impact for others.”

Successful candidates will take part in a range of events throughout the year, including youth voice conferences and national debates. They will also join a network of youth representatives from across the UK, working together to champion youth priorities.

Councillor Victora Aitken, cabinet member for children, families and education said: “Being involved in the Youth Parliament gives young people a voice and chance to impact on issues affecting them. It also gives an insight into the democratic process, including standing for election, voting and why it was important.

“Well done to our outgoing members of Youth Parliament, George Jackson and Sophia Osborne, who have represented the young people of East Riding on a national level, having been involved in issues and debates at the House of Commons, as well as being instrumental in decision making locally, for the last two year.”

The deadline for nominations is Monday 8 December.

Young people from across East Riding will then vote for their preferred representatives in February. Two young people will be elected to Youth Parliament, and two young people will be elected as deputy members at a declaration event on Thursday 5 March.

Applications are now open for any young person aged 11–18 who lives or attends school/college in the East Riding.
