Charity Commission highlights risks of conflicts of interest

The Charity Commission for England and Wales has published a new blog urging trustees to better recognise and manage conflicts of interest.

In “Let’s talk about conflicts of interest in charities”, the regulator stresses that conflicts are common and must be handled properly to protect both the charity and public trust.

The Commission highlights that many issues arise from a lack of awareness, rather than deliberate wrongdoing. Trustees are reminded to declare conflicts early, step back from decisions where needed, and keep clear records.

Failure to manage conflicts can lead to poor decisions, financial risk, and potential legal consequences for trustees.
