Community groups across the North of England are being encouraged to take advantage of a new, more flexible approach to funding from the Northern Powergrid Foundation.
What’s changed?
The Foundation has moved away from fixed application windows and now operates assessment windows. This means you can apply for an Energy Resilience Grant at any time, making it easier to start the process when your project is ready.
How the new process works
-
Complete the eligibility quiz
Start by completing a short online quiz to receive instant eligibility results. -
Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI)
If eligible, you’ll be invited to submit a brief EOI outlining your project. -
EOI review (within 14 working days)
The Foundation team will review your EOI and let you know if you can proceed to a full application. -
Assessment window
Full applications will be assessed during the next assessment window, which opens on 15 April 2026. Decisions will be confirmed once approved by the trustees.
What funding is available?
The Energy Resilience Grants offer up to £20,000 to support projects that help communities stay safe, warm and powered during emergencies such as power cuts or flooding. Examples include:
-
Installing solar panels with battery storage
-
Purchasing or upgrading generators
-
Improving energy resilience in community hubs, halls or warm spaces
