A modern slavery knowledge sharing and learning event for the VCFSE sector in Hull and the East Riding.
The Modern Slavery National Referral Mechanism end of year summary shows that there were 362 nationalities represented by referrals for support in 2024. In a recent report by the Wilberforce Institute in partnership with Shiva Foundation and West Midlands Anti-Slavery Network and funded by the Human Rights and Modern Slavery Policy and Evidence Centre (MSPEC), it was highlighted that marginalised communities facing exclusion based on factors such as race, class, sexuality, socio-economic status, or immigration status are more vulnerable to exploitation. It also showed that failing to take these factors into account can make modern slavery responses ineffective, for example, it can make survivors more reluctant to come forward, be identified as victims of trafficking, receive support, and engage with authorities in prosecution cases.
The Humber Modern Slavery Partnership, based at the Wilberforce Institute, University of Hull, along with Forum, and Community VISION invite you to our upcoming modern slavery training and knowledge exchange event for the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise sector across Hull and East Riding in the ground floor event space at Princess Quay, Hull on Thursday the 30th April 2026.
The will start with an overview of modern slavery and how it manifests in our area. Followed with sessions by the Humberside Police modern slavery team, the children’s refugee and asylum seeker team at Hull City Council, and a session on cuckooing by East Riding Safeguarding Adults Board. Attendees will take part in a workshop excercise and there will opportunity to ask questions to our speakers and experts.
