New Guidance Launched to Help Parents Choose Safe Out-of-School Clubs

The East Riding Safeguarding Children Partnership (ERSCP) has launched a new Parent/Carer Guide to Choosing Safe Out-of-School Clubs. This easy-to-follow leaflet is designed to help parents and carers make informed choices when selecting activities such as sports clubs, youth groups, tuition sessions, or faith-based activities.

Importantly, out-of-school settings are not formally inspected or assessed, so ERSCP has developed this guidance to support families — and to strengthen the work of the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) service — in making sure children are kept safe.

The guide highlights what parents should look out for, from safeguarding policies and staff vetting to venue safety and how concerns are handled. It also provides clear advice on what to do if you ever have worries about your child’s safety while attending a club.
