East Riding of Yorkshire Council, in partnership with Hessle Town Council, is inviting residents, businesses, and visitors to share their views on new design concepts for Hessle Square.
Its aim is to create a welcoming, flexible space that celebrates Hessle’s heritage and supports markets, community events, and local businesses.
Proposals include a multi-use plaza for events, enhanced greenery, seating, and sheltered areas, alongside safer pedestrian routes and improved accessibility.
Public art, better lighting, and measures to reduce anti-social behaviour would help create a vibrant, inclusive destination. The design also focuses on improving walking connections, making the town centre easier to navigate, while ensuring adaptability for markets, events, and social spaces.
Designed for both day and evening use, the concepts aim to be inclusive and welcoming for all, with sustainable, durable features that are easy to maintain. This proposal could safeguard Hessle Square as a vibrant, accessible space at the heart of the community.
Councillor Anne Handley, East Riding of Yorkshire Council leader said “We’re proud to support communities across the region, including in Hessle. We encourage residents to take part in the survey and let us know their thoughts about the future of Hessle Square.”
This is an early-stage project to guide future plans and funding. No immediate changes will happen yet, with residents’ views shaping next steps.
Residents are encouraged to take part in the survey at eryc.link/HessleSquare, which will close on Friday 9 January 2026.
There will also be in person engagement events throughout the consultation period, details of which will be provided on social media.
