Residents Invited to Help Shape the Future of Brough Town Centre

A public engagement campaign has been launched inviting residents, businesses, and visitors to share their views on proposed improvements to Brough town centre.

The council is seeking feedback on draft design proposals to upgrade the public space at the crossroads of Skillings Lane and Welton Road.

In collaboration with Elloughton-cum-Brough Town Council, the project aims to enhance the usability of Brough’s central areas, in line with recommendations from the town centre action plan produced last year.

The proposals include creating additional public space, installing seating, adding raised planting, and improving grassed verges, particularly near the war memorial. Plans also explore options for enhanced lighting and seasonal decorations, while ensuring the Roman Statue remains a key feature in all designs.

Early engagement with local businesses and Brough in Bloom has already taken place. The wider community is invited to help shape the next phase of the project. Feedback will guide design refinements and determine which proposals move forward into the next stage of development. This feasibility work is being funded by UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Councillor Ann Handley, East Riding of Yorkshire Council leader said, “This is a great opportunity for Brough residents to have their voices heard and we urge everyone to get involved and share their thoughts on the future of their local community.”

Public drop-in sessions will also be held at Elloughton-cum-Brough Town Council offices on Thursday, 4 December, from 11:00 am. to 12:30 pm, and Tuesday, 16 December, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
