Do You Manage a Building? Important Fire Safety Reminder

If you own, manage, or are responsible for a building, this message is for you.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service is issuing a reminder to businesses, landlords and duty holders to review their evacuation procedures in line with the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022.

Under these regulations, the Responsible Person (the employer, building owner, or person in control of the premises) must ensure that accurate evacuation procedures, floor plans, and key building safety information are in place and available to Fire and Rescue Services.

Evacuation plans should include:

  • Clearly defined evacuation routes
  • Appropriate and visible signage
  • Simple, easy-to-understand instructions
  • Up-to-date building information for emergency responders
  • Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs) for anyone who may need additional support

Responsible Persons have a legal duty to ensure that all occupants can leave the building safely in the event of an emergency.

Our Protection team strongly encourages you to review your evacuation procedures regularly, ensuring they reflect any changes in building layout, occupancy or use.
