Disabled people across England will soon be able to use their concessionary bus passes at any time of the day, following a new Government announcement.
From 1 April 2027, eligible disabled bus pass holders will be able to travel free of charge on buses 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Currently, the national scheme generally restricts weekday use to between 9.30am and 11pm, although some local authorities already offer additional concessions.
The Government is providing £60 million to support the change, which aims to make travel more affordable and remove barriers for disabled people accessing employment, education, training, healthcare and other services.
The change will apply across England, creating a consistent national offer regardless of where eligible pass holders live. Local authorities will continue to administer disabled bus passes and assess applications against the existing eligibility criteria.
The announcement forms part of wider measures aimed at making bus travel more affordable, including the Government’s commitment to a £2 bus fare cap throughout 2027.
