Basic Introduction to Youth Work Course

This FREE face to face course is for anyone aged over 18 who want to build their skills and knowledge in the field of working with young people aged 11-19 (up to 25 with additional needs) as a youth worker. Whether you are already a youth volunteer or paid youth worker, from any organisation or wanting to start volunteering on a youth project then this course is for you.

Organised by Goole Youth Action and funded by an award from East Riding of Yorkshire Council. This basic non-accredited youth work course is delivered by Vicky Gough an experienced JNC qualified and accredited trainer and is for 6 weeks, with each session being 1.5 hour and is delivered from GYA’s new base at Goole College, starting Wednesday 9 April to 14 May 2025.

There are no pre-entry requirements other than you can answer the following questions…………

  • Keen to gain more knowledge about working with young people in a youth work setting?
  • Live in the East Riding of Yorkshire?
  • Aged 18years of age or over?
  • Have access to a computer / laptop?
  • Have or can obtain a email account?
  • Can commit to 1.5 hrs per week for 6 weeks?

Week I – Theory of youth work
Week 4 – Engaging and communicating
Week 2 – Safeguarding in a youth work setting
Week 5 – Work Based Practice
Week 3 – Young people’s Development
Week 6 – Group work

We are offering 12 FREE places on the following course:

Dates/Times: Wednesday evenings 6.30pm – 8pm starting on Wednesday 9 April
Location: Goole College, Boothferry Road DN14

Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Please note that places are very limited and as we expect a high demand for this course, only apply for the course if you are willing to see it through to week 6!.

Those not completing the course without good reason will be charged an admin fee £25.
