Companies House Sign-In Changes Coming This August

Companies House has announced changes to how users sign in to its Find and update company information service, with GOV.UK One Login becoming the main sign-in option from late August 2026.

Existing users will still be able to use their current Companies House account details for the time being. However, all new users will need to create a GOV.UK One Login to access Companies House services. In the future, all existing users will also be required to move across, with further notice promised before this becomes compulsory.

GOV.UK One Login uses an email address and password alongside multi-factor authentication (MFA), either through an authenticator app or SMS, helping to provide additional account security.

The change is particularly important for organisations where several staff members currently share a Companies House account. Each GOV.UK One Login is designed for an individual, so organisations are being encouraged to ensure that everyone who needs access has their own account, email address and phone number. Continuing to share accounts once they are linked to GOV.UK One Login could trigger security controls and result in users being locked out.

Companies House has stressed that this change relates to the sign-in process only and does not mean users are being asked to verify their identity.
