The Big Care Career Fair, taking place on Friday, 14 November, aims to help those looking to make a change and pursue a career in care.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council will be hosting this free-to-attend event between 1pm and 3pm at the Leslie Downs Lecture Theatre, Ferens Building, University of Hull.
The event will feature care sector employers, including the council as one of the largest employers in the region, alongside private residential care settings and community care providers.
A range of health and care sector employers will be attending the event, including Advanced Care Yorkshire, Barnardos, Cloverleaf Advocacy, Sirius Homecare, NL Group and Caremark, together with the council’s Lifeline service, NHS Humber, North Yorkshire ICB, any many more.
The careers fair offers a unique opportunity to speak directly with local adult social care businesses and discover the wide variety of rewarding careers available across the region. Visitors will find information on both current and future vacancies, with many of the employers offering CV advice.
The care sector is evolving and offers flexibility, choice, and clear career pathways. Whether visitors are looking for full-time or part-time work, temporary or permanent roles, or perhaps students seeking experience alongside their studies, there is something for everyone.
Careers in care are for everyone; carers come from all walks of life including young carers, carers from ethnic minority communities and LGBTQ+ carers. There are plenty of entry level opportunities to help people take that first step into care, as well as pathways into management roles.

Councillor Jonathan Owen, cabinet member for adult social care and health at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: ‘‘We’re proud to support this event which showcases the incredible opportunities in adult social care and the vital role care workers play in our communities.’’
Tina Tate, strategic resourcing manager at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “A career in care is like no other — it’s rewarding, flexible, and suits people from all walks of life. Following the success of last year’s event, we’re proud to bring together a wide range of care providers under one roof to help people explore the many opportunities available.
‘’Whether you’re just starting out, looking for a change, or returning to work, come along, ask questions, and find out if care is for you.’’
This event is part of East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s wider ambition to inform, educate and inspire people to consider a career in care, as part of the sector-wide ‘Choose Care, Change Lives’ campaign.
The campaign also highlights lesser-known roles in care such as catering assistants, cooks, gardeners, project planners and IT experts.
