High streets across the East Riding have benefited from a series of improvement projects delivered by Invest East Yorkshire Business Support Services, funded by the United Kingdom Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).
Since July 2023, the team has handled more than 340 enquiries from retail businesses and delivered targeted support to strengthen local economies, increase footfall and encourage people to shop locally.
56 businesses have received £340,000 in investment via the UKSPF, with a further 13 town centre businesses benefiting from Rural England Prosperity Fund (REPF) grants.
Working with town and parish councils, community groups and independent traders, the programme has enhanced Beverley’s Independents Quarter, launched the Love Hessle shop local campaign, promoted independent retailers in Hornsea, and supported Bubwith businesses during the bridge closure.
Councillor Anne Handley, East Riding of Yorkshire Council leader, said: “We are proud to support our high streets, and work closely with businesses and communities to help them thrive. This involves investment and advice, as well as free parking on weekends in the run up to Christmas. This includes on Small Business Saturday, on Saturday 6 December, which serves as a key reminder of the importance of supporting local traders. Together we can build thriving communities across the East Riding.”
Further support for high streets is planned, including business workshops for the retail and hospitality sector.
Invest East Yorkshire Business Support Services provide free, impartial and confidential guidance to new and established businesses in the East Riding. It helps them to start, grow, and access funding and specialist advice.
