September news
It’s full steam ahead after the summer holidays for organisations getting prepared for our new Code of Fundraising Practice coming into effect on 1 November 2025.
As we enter the final couple of months before the new code is operational, our Head of Policy, Paul Winyard, has written a blog to update on some of the actions our team has taken to help charities implementing the code and improve its clarity. You can also attend an interactive webinar with our team on Wednesday 15 October to strengthen your understanding of the new code and guidance.
To help organisations and fundraisers put the new code into practice, we are continuing to release a series of practical guides on important fundraising topics. This month we have published our guide on handling cashless donations, which you can read on our website.

Update on the new code: implementation period and wording refinements
As we approach the new code becoming operational on the 1 November, our Head of Policy, Paul Winyard, has written a blog to update organisations during the last few months of the implementation period.
This update includes details about a new FAQs page covering common questions on the code, and three minor amendments made to the new code to improve clarity.
Handling cashless donations guide
We’ve published a new guide for fundraisers when handling cashless donations. It covers rules around the donation of money made without using physical banknotes or coins, such as by credit or debit card, Direct Debits, bank transfers or other types of electronic payment. The guide also includes a list of top tips to help you in your fundraising activity.
Interactive webinar – Are you code confident?
To help you and your organisation prepare for the new code coming into effect on 1 November, we’re hosting a free, interactive webinar on 15 October, 12 pm – 1 pm.
This webinar is a chance to grow your code confidence in a focused and applied way – and to put your questions directly to our team. We will use live polls and interactive questions to support your understanding of key parts of the code and guidance. Together, we’ll talk through the answers and share practical insights on applying the rules in day-to-day fundraising.
New investigation summaries published
We publish summaries of our investigations to share learning with the sector and enable the public to make informed decisions when they donate to charity.
Reviewing arrangements with agencies and sub-contractors was a key recommendation in our recently published investigation summary on Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. While our Depher CIC investigation summary recommended seeking advice and reviewing its fundraising activities and materials, particularly around social media and online fundraising. You can read more in the full summaries on our website.
