Mental Capacity & Safeguarding Training – East Riding

The East Riding Safeguarding Adults Board (ERSAB) has shared details of an upcoming full-day online training session exploring mental capacity and safeguarding, with a particular focus on assessing capacity in cases involving hoarding, self-neglect and refusal of support.

The session will explore some of the more complex decisions practitioners face in adult safeguarding, including assessing a person’s ability to use information when making decisions, responding to unwise but capacitous refusals, and working across the Mental Capacity Act 2005, Care Act 2014 and inherent jurisdiction.

The training is aimed at professionals including social workers, safeguarding leads, Section 42 enquiry officers, AMHPs, BIAs, occupational therapists, health professionals, housing and environmental health officers, fire-safety officers and team managers.

The session will be delivered by Neil Allen, Barrister at 39 Essex Chambers and founder of LPS Law, a specialist in mental capacity and mental health law.
