World Suicide Prevention Day – Candle-Lit Vigil

Please find attached the programme for our World Suicide Prevention Day Candle-Lit Vigil, taking place on Thursday 10 September 2026, 6.00pm–8.00pm at 20-21 Visual Arts Centre, Church Square.

The evening will provide an opportunity to come together to remember those we have lost to suicide, support those who have been bereaved and create a space for reflection and hope.

British Steel & Appleby Frodingham Railway – Special Guided Tour

As part of our Men’s Mental Health & Suicide Prevention Conference on Tuesday 15 September, in partnership with British steel we have organised a special guided railway tour of the British Steel site following the conference.

We still have a small number of places available, so I wanted to extend the invitation to members of the Suicide Prevention Steering Group who may be interested in joining us.

The tour, organised in partnership with British Steel and Appleby Frodingham Railway Scunthorpe, is expected to begin at approximately 4.45pm and will last around two hours, finishing at approximately 6.45pm.

This is a rare opportunity to travel aboard heritage British Rail brake vans and experience around 10 miles of British Steel’s 110-mile internal rail network. Throughout the journey, volunteer guides will share the fascinating history of the Scunthorpe steelworks and provide an insight into the processes involved in producing iron, steel and rolled products.

New Gambling Recovery Support Service in North Lincolnshire

TimeOut North Lincolnshire offers local gambling recovery support to people who are worried about their gambling or feel gambling is starting to cause them harm.

The team can help explore triggers and patterns, co-produce a recovery plan, and look at practical strategies that may help reduce gambling harm.

They offer lived experience, one-to-ones and peer support, pathways to specialist support, and opportunities for personal development.

TimeOut will be holding an information session on 17 September 2026, 11am to 12pm via MS Teams to talk more about the impact of gambling harms and to share information about the types of support they provide to people who are struggling.

Support after Suicide Prevention Central Hub- Gambling Harms and Suicide Bereavement

Gambling harms and bereavement by suicide – A guide for support services and professionals. The guide is aimed at professionals working with people who have been bereaved by suicide and highlights the importance of understanding gambling harms and their relationship with suicide bereavement.

A particularly important finding highlighted within the guide is that 1 in 5 people who experience problems with their gambling behaviour have thoughts of suicide, with 1 in 20 reporting a suicide attempt in the previous year.

The guide also provides practical information for professionals on recognising gambling harms, opening up conversations and supporting people affected.
