Millions of households to receive letters confirming £150 Warm Home Discount

Millions of households across Britain are set to receive a £150 reduction on their energy bills this winter through the government’s Warm Home Discount scheme.

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero announced on 22 October 2026 that confirmation letters are beginning to arrive at eligible households.

Around six million households across Britain are expected to benefit from the scheme during winter 2026/27.

What should households look out for?

Letters will be issued between October 2026 and January 2027.

Eligible households will receive information explaining whether their discount will be applied automatically or whether they need to provide additional details.

Some recipients will be asked to contact the Warm Home Discount helpline before 26 February 2027 to confirm their eligibility.

The £150 discount is normally applied directly to an eligible household’s electricity bill rather than paid into their bank account.

Beware of scams

The government is also reminding households to remain alert to suspicious messages claiming to relate to energy discounts.

Criminals may attempt to exploit financial support schemes by sending fraudulent emails, text messages or telephone calls requesting personal or banking information.

Residents should avoid following unexpected links or providing financial details in response to unsolicited communications.

Anyone unsure about their eligibility should use official government information or contact their energy supplier through established contact details.

Supporting people with energy costs

The Warm Home Discount is intended to help eligible households manage energy costs during the colder months.

Community organisations, advice services and charities supporting people experiencing financial hardship may wish to share information about the scheme.
