Record turnout as over 2,000 young people explore future careers at Apprenticeship Expo

Hull & East Riding Apprenticeship Expo took place at Bishop Burton on Wednesday 30 September, and this year’s event saw over 2000 young people speak with local apprenticeship and training providers.

East Riding and Hull schools visited with pupils in Years 11, 12 and 13 during the daytime session, and families came along with their young people to the evening session.

More than 50 employers and training providers attended including Arco, Swift, Hobson & Porter, Avant Skills Academy, BAM UK, Choose Care, GGP Consult, Pitman training, Reckitt, Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and many local colleges.

Councillor Victoria Aitken, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education said: “The apprenticeship expo is always a great event for our young people and this year was bigger and better, with over 1000 young people coming along with their school, and a further 1000 young people and their families attending at the evening session.

“It’s the perfect opportunity for young people to speak to a range of organisations to explore the opportunities available here in East Yorkshire. Employers from a range of industries, including engineering, manufacturing, social care, pharmaceutical and food production, engaged with young people to help them as they plan their next steps and future careers.”

The event was jointly organised by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Hull City Council and Bishop Burton College.
