Rural communities benefit from major broadband boost

Thousands of rural homes and businesses across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire are benefiting from faster and more reliable broadband as part of the UK Government’s Project Gigabit programme.

More than 60,000 homes and businesses across the two regions can now access gigabit-capable broadband, with rural communities in the East Riding of Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire among those benefiting from the rollout.

In the East Riding, the latest areas to benefit include Newport and Gilberdyke, alongside communities around Beverley and Market Weighton, including Holme-on-Spalding-Moor and Middleton-on-the-Wolds. Winterton in North Lincolnshire is also highlighted as one of the communities benefiting from improved connectivity.

The rollout aims to improve access to reliable broadband in harder-to-reach areas, helping residents to work and learn online, stay connected with friends and family and access digital services. It is also expected to help rural businesses reach customers, take payments and make greater use of online opportunities.

The programme is being delivered locally by Quickline, which has received £127 million through Project Gigabit. Alongside the broadband rollout, Quickline has supported more than 1,700 young people with STEM skills and careers activities, including workshops for pupils in East Yorkshire.
