The Big Future: Launch of the Childrens Commissioner’s National Survey

Children and young people in the East Riding are invited to give their views on childhood today, as part of a national survey.

The Big Future survey has been launched by Dame Rachel de Souza, for all children and young people aged 0–18 in England. The survey asks about the changes they want to see in their communities, their main concerns, their hopes for the future, and what they think a good childhood should look like, both now and in the future.

Councillor Victoria Aitken, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education said: “I’d urge our children and young people to feed into the conversation, to ensure their views and experiences help shape the future – whether that’s about education, community, environment, jobs, skills, health or family.”

The survey closes on 23 October 2026, with findings due to be published next year. These will be used to inform advocacy at the highest level, focusing on solutions to the issues children say matter most to them.
